The archeological area develops around the
ancient Matauros, the actual Gioia Tauro, and around the archaic
necropolis of the Pietra district. Medieval villages and noble
villas are characteristic of the area, like Oppido Mamertima and
Scido, that has a museum for the country civilization. Emperor Carlo
V visit in Seminara in 1535, represents the main historical event,
that is lived again every year in August in a procession with the
costumes of the time.
